In 1978, Stanton presented the keynote address to the annual conference of the Canadian Addiction Research Foundation, Calgary, on "Is There a Solution for Addiction?" In 1989, he presented one of six keynote addresses at the Addiction Research Foundation of Ontario's 40th anniversary conference, along with H. David Archibald, the founder of ARF; Elinor Caplan, Ontario's Minister of Health; Dr. Fred Glaser, Editor of the Institute of Medicine's Broadening the Base of Treatment for Alcohol Problems; MPP Ken Black, head of the 1988 Task Force on Illegal Drugs in Ontario; and Stephen Glenn, White House honored speaker on prevention.
