I confess - I do bad things!

Reading about Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich’s alleged misdeeds, I searched my own soul and came up with a host of actions I regret. I hope that confessing them here won’t make me the object of a federal probe!

Among the many guilty secrets I dug up were the following:

When I go to Trader Joe’s with my sister-in-law, she brings bags she is recycling, while I get new ones! (I do use the old ones for trash, and don’t just discard them.)

My 20-year-old daughter regularly gives blood, and I don’t! (Dang me! I promise to try to in the future.)

I sometimes resent posts by my fellow bloggers, feeling I could have written a better one! (Isn’t envy one of the seven deadly sins?)

I’ve let my friend Neil pay for dinner more times than I’ve treated him! (He says friendship is not a quid pro quo, but I feel guilty anyhow.)

I don’t think they should bail out mortgagees who can’t pay their monthly nut, because I pay mine! (Where is my Christian charity?)

I feel they shouldn’t bail out Detroit automakers, because they’re idiots! (Where’s my humility?)

When I contemplate the topics under which I can post my PT blogs, I never think they fully describe what I'm writing about! (Look at this one, for instance.)

I’m trying to pass my “wealth” along to my children so they can remain in society’s privileged class! (Unlike Warren Buffett, who’s only leaving his kids a few million apiece, and giving the rest to charity.)

I like when Bill O’Reilly every now and again comes up with accurate smears against liberal commentators! (E.g., they don’t criticize liberal politicians for the same things they hold conservatives’ feet to the fire.)

I think psychological explanations for Blagojevich’s ethical obtuseness (and his wife’s screeching in the background to egg him on) are BS, and he’s more representative of politicians as a class than not.

Anyhow, his antics make me feel there are worse people than I am.

At the same time, his audacity (asking for pay-offs while he knows he’s under federal investigation, refusing to resign just because they’ve taped him selling political favors to the highest bidder, planning to become president himself) makes me realize what a wuss I am and how I don’t have the guts to be a power player.

One more thing to beat myself up about!
